For the past months, we’ve been discussing where The Crisps is headed. We spend a generous amount of time researching, writing, and developing this newsletter. Each issue takes us between 8 and 16 hours. Some have taken almost a week like “Debunking 50 myths about "sustainability" in fashion”.
We strongly believe in our independent work and receive so much great feedback for our approach and content (thank you!). We don’t take on investments from brands or institutions and want to stay a reader-funded publication. However, our pro subscriptions only cover a teeny tiny fraction of the work and hours we have poured into the past 60 issues of The Crisps.
Don’t get us wrong, we are immensely grateful for all of you who already support us with a pro subscription. But right now we’re volunteering most of the time we spend on The Crisps – which isn’t possible in the long run. So something needs to change.
With our recent survey, we wanted to get a feeling of how we can make the publication better and how often you’d like to receive The Crisps. Because during the past months, we’ve received quite a lot of in-person feedback telling us that the content is great but twice a month would be enough. This is consistent with the results of our survey. And this feedback aligns with the changes we’ve been thinking about!
What happens next?
We will be off from mid-July to the beginning of August – resetting, recharging, and working on new issues that incorporate your feedback.
Starting in August, we will be back with a slightly adapted concept.
What’s new? From August on we will publish two issues each month and fuse the free and pro issues. So parts of each issue will be free to read for everyone, others will be only accessible with a pro subscription.
What stays? We will continue to dedicate a focus topic to each issue. We already have great deep dives planned into topics such as Decolonial Narratives, Leather, and the second issue on Positive Communication examples you asked for. With your pro subscription, you’ll still get exclusive content (now in paywalled sections not as separate issues), analysis, and expert input. Plus, you will continue to have access to future workshops for free.
All the best,
Tanita & Lavinia
